Summary of Problem

Oak wilt is caused by the fungus Ceratocystis fagacearum. This pathogen inhabits the tree’s sapwood and disrupts the flow of water to the crown which causes a characteristic wilting. It was first identified in 1944 in Wisconsin, but now has been confirmed in over 20 states in the upper eastern half of the US as well as Texas.
